His Early Years
Dyson was born in a middle class family on May 2,
1947, in the backwaters of north Norfolk, England. His parents were
academics and his grandfather a grammar school headmaster. Not
surprisingly, Dyson too was interested in scholarly pursuits. From
1956 to 1965, he pursued his education at Gresham's School, Holt, in

The Bagless Vacuum Cleaner
In 1978, Dyson came up with the idea of inventing a bagless vacuum cleaner
while his country house was being revamped. While vacuuming his house, he grew
irritated with the low suction capacity of his vacuum cleaner.
This was not the first time he had had a problem with a vacuum cleaner. Dyson
recalled that, once as a six-year-old child, he had had to help his mother with
her household chores as his father was ill...
